The James Creek Watershed Initiative was formed in 1996 as a grass roots community based organization committed to watershed protection.
The mission of the Initiative is to engage the community in protecting the waters of James Creek and the forest ecosystem surrounding it.
The Initiative’s Goals:

JCWI offers opportunities for hands-on stewardship of the watershed
Projects have lasting positive impacts for the watershed community
As a result of the September 2013 flooding, JCWI secured funding through the Healthy Rivers grant sponsored by the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
Initial post-flood fill at these sites where houses once stood introduced invasive grasses
Planning and landscape design were integral to the implementation.
Several volunteer work days provided a great hands-on experience resulting in a much improved area.
